Access…

Living without a laptop or even a dedicated desktop computer has been aggravating, to say the least. For the past few years, I’ve become accustomed to writing on the fly on such a device. Now, I find myself doing things the old fashioned way. A jot on a PostIt note, a scribble on a napkin, [...]

Screenwriting Expo…

This is a shout out to all who have EVER shown up at the Screenwriting Expo here in sunny Los Angeles. What has your experience been like? I, for one, have been there a sum total of TWO TIMES. The first time was a typical virginal experience. I stuck my head in a seminar here, [...]

From Vue Weekly (about a solution to writer’s procrastination)…

ARTS
WRITER’S TABLE OFFERS A DIVERSIONARY TACTIC FOR A WRITER’S PROCRASTINATION
DARREN ZENKO / darren@vueweekly.com
All but the most fiendishly disciplined of writers know the miseries of working at home, of trying to create good material in quantity while surrounded by the distractions and obligations of the day-to-day —of working in the place where all the TV-watching, cooking, [...]

Script to Screen…

As I written in a recent post, I’ve been going through some old material. I found a short script that was developed into a short film that I used as my undergraduate thesis project. While the piece is somewhat dated, I’ve decided to update it and hopefully broadcast it in a couple of months. While not [...]

New life…

There is something completely invigorating about writing a blog, even one that no one reads. After all, I write for myself. If there is an audience, then I am validated as a writer. If there isn’t, at least I am loved.
This blog was initially designed to serve a supplemental task to my real life Writers [...]

Dead writer.

Seems I’ve been suffering from such a prolonged case of writer’s block that I feel I’ve lost my mojo. I have absolutely no desire to write, at least anything new. I’m spinning my wheels with old material, resurrecting scripts that for the most part are dead and buried.
Although there is some life in one or [...]

On craft…

I am presently proofreading a friend’s umpteenth draft. Although the script is familiar to me, every time I read it I find new things to like/dislike about it. This joke drags on, the exposition there is just right, and so on.
Scripts, like any form of writing, is somewhat liquid.
 Don’t you think?

Mentor.

Stewart Lindh has been my friend and mentor for the past 9 years. He has provided insightful criticism, wit and intelligence, all while working as a writer himself. I cannot say enough about this man. He is simply the best.
His website, stewartlindh.com, will give you a better glimpse into his brilliance. I’m honored to be [...]

What the heck…

What the heck…
I can’t exactly divorce myself from my day job, even when there isn’t one. Up until recently, I’ve relied on the steady income coming in from a 9-5 to keep plugging away at my craft (in this case, writing). However, presently I do not have a day job. At least for the summer [...]

More about Writer’s Block…

Actually, the block shown in August 21st’s entry is an actual “Block” sold by my good friend and mentor, Stewart Lindh. Check out his website, stewartlindh.com and see what magical properties the Block possesses!
And no, this is NOT some shameless plug or product placement.
